GBIF Taxonomic Comparison

To get a better understanding of the GBIF data, we examined the data at various taxonomic levels. By sorting the data by the number of occurrences, we found out  that sea slugs (order: Nudibranchia) made up 40% of the GBIF observations. Human observations usually tend to photograph animals.

To find out how eDNA complements GBIF data, we  looked at whether or not there was a eDNA match for each GBIF taxa. While eDNA and GBIF have a high match rate at the higher taxonomic levels (phylum, class, order), there is low match rate at lower taxonomic levels (genus and species).
