For two years, CALeDNA has monitored fragile vernal pool habitats in different seasons. Come to this bioblitz in Merced county and learn from conservation scientists and natural areas managers about the special vernal pool species such as fairy shrimp and colusa grass, and we'll share with you what eDNA results we have from the past year too!
The first ~45 minutes is introductions and training, and then we will begin our walk to visit at least five vernal pools. We may use gators to drive around, so prepare for light hiking and some off-roading!
We aim to wrap up by 12:30. Please bring water and a snack to power through the morning!
We will meet at the barn at the reserve on UC Merced campus. The gate will be open for you to drive in. Carpooling from UCLA or UCSC can be organized! Send us an email if you need it.
