In 2020 lightning strikes started fires that decimated

~1 million acres of California. Swanton Ranch was

badly burned but some areas

were protected from the fire. We

are studying how wildfire affects microbial

communities by comparing burned

and unburned lands.

These samples will be archived as a

frozen collection preserving a snap-shot

of California biodiversity. Join us!

What you will do:

1. Learn how to take biological

samples of soil at two depths

2. Collect!

3. Log and submit your data!
