This bioblitz is in collaboration with climate scientists from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory! Not far from LA is beautiful Elsmere Canyon. Meet at 9AM at the trailhead of Elsmere Canyon (http://hikesantaclarita.com/files/2012/06/Elsmere_Canyon_Trail.pdf) and be prepared for a moderate hike. Please bring a packed lunch: we will provide some morning snacks.
The goal of this project is to compare biodiversity from eDNA to forest trait data from NASA special flights that make spectral and hyperspectral measurements over the area. We'll also be looking at how proximity to freeways affects biodiversity.
Elsmere Canyon is located at the intersection of Sierra Highway and Remson Street, just south of Eternal Valley Cemetery. Parking is available along the road at the gate. The trail is accessible on foot, non-motorized bike or horseback from Remsen Street. Continue under the freeway to the canyon. We can help coordinate carpools from UCLA if needed!
