WE WILL RESCHEDULE FOR JANUARY

Visit two natural reserves in the beautiful Joshua Tree area: Pioneertown Mountain Preserve and Burns Piñon Ridge Reserve. The reserves are 5 minutes apart from each other, but one experienced a severe fire a decade ago, while the other didn't. As a CALeDNA citizen scientist, you will help recover DNA evidence of how the environment recovers after fire. Past DNA research has also turned up incredible species diversity, including DNA from bears and even water bears (tardigrades)!

We will start at 9AM at Pioneertown Mountain Preserve to hike and collect samples in the morning. Bring a packed lunch. After lunch we will go over to Burns Piñon Ridge Reserve, and collect more samples. We will end by going to visit the historic Pioneertown Western Town and enjoy the famous restaurant, Pappy and Harriets.

We can help you with carpooling from UCLA!
